Full instructions for use are included. The individual visual cue cards can be presented in a variety of ways. Examples:- a photograph ‘flip’ wallet a hole punched into the corner of each card and placed on a key ring. Pictures may be enlarged or reduced in size to suit the individual child. Contents include: Good communication: visual cue cards include traffic light icons for stop wait along with look, listen, my turn, quiet time and good. Classroom Strategy Cues for Older Children: Use of the cards should be “rehearsed” in a one to one setting or small group setting and then introduced into the classroom or social situation eg. an adult deliberately gives lengthy, rushed instructions to the child, who must hold up the “please slow down” card. Vocabulary Learning Check List to build up semantic and phonological links which help both understanding and accurate ‘storing’ of vocabulary. Visual “countdown” strips can make ending or changing activities much easier to handle by providing a more concrete means for the adult to signal to the child that time is passing. Visual Timetables/Organisational Checklists/Sequencing: Blank squares are provided in which to place the pictures provided – for example, getting dressed, things to pack for school, timetable of the school day. The strips can be made as long or as short as is appropriate for the child.
